Evergreen Players - CenterStage

27608 Fireweed Drive, Evergreen, Colorado

Evergreen photojournalist Ellen Nelson says, "I am impressed by every show they produce. I see one and think it was the best, then I see another and think it was the best. Few people realize that the Players attract performers from the entire metro area, not just from Evergreen."

Evergreen Players is one of Colorado’s oldest community theater companies that began in 1950 as a play-reading group at the home of Willard and Mary Helen Crain (founders of the Canyon Courier). They performed at Evergreen High School auditorium until volunteer burn-out caused a dormant period. When the new Episcopal Church of Transfiguration was built in 1964, the historic (1860s) church building, known as St. Marks, became "The Little Log Theatre" for the Players from 1966 until 1990.

Fund raising over recent years financed a spacious new Center Stage lobby, 800 square feet of decking, and 300 square feet of patio. The entertainment volunteers are more like an extended family that produces three to five shows annually including a summer musical. Since 2000, Evergreen Player Alfred Uhry received many awards including First Place Show and five other major awards at the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition 2003.
