Colorado Legislators Urge Denial of More Broadcast Antennas

State Senator Joan Fitz-Gerald sent the following letter to Jefferson County Commissioners on May 8, 2002:

    Dear Commissioners:

As elected representatives of the area immediately surrounding the proposed sites for broadcast towers at Lookout Mountain and Mount Morrison, we would like to request a rejection of the proposed re-zoning proposals.

There is abundant evidence that these proposed sites are not the optimal broadcast solutions for the needs of the front range. The interference caused by these proposals is counter-productive to the best interests of Jefferson County and its residents.

Lookout Mountain and Mount Morrison are recognized as part of the Lariat Loop Mountain Gateway, a Colorado Heritage Area. As such these sites must be protected.

We know you will carefully consider the implications of these proposals and ensure that any decision is consistent with the best long-term interests of the State and region. For this reason, we request a rejection of the proposed developments on the basis of the impacts to local, regional, and state assets. Prudent avoidance of risk should be followed.

State Senators Joan Fitz-Gerald, Terry Phillips, Ron Tupa, Ed Perlmutter, Sue Windels, Deanna Hanna and State Representatives Todd Saliman, Alice Madden, Tom Plant, Glenn Scott, Kelley Daniel, Betty Boyd, Cheri Jahn and John Witwer.
