Recreation in Jefferson County

Hang Gliding/Paragliding

The truly adventurous take advantage of the historic and scenic Lariat Trail (Lookout Mountain Road) near the Mines "M." They launch running down a slope into a breeze, and glide down or soar for hours before landing near Hwy 93, west of the historic Colorado School of Mines. Hangliders say it is like "a simple wing, the kind of aircraft Leonardo da Vinci could have loved."

Kayaking

The only championship-caliber course in metro Denver is the on Clear Creek within Lions Park, along 10th Street west of Washington Avenue in Golden. The course is as popular for spectators as for athletes. If you want to take lessons, rent a kayak, or enjoy a half or full day guide trip, go to Golden River Sports at 806 Washington.
