*Colorado Historical Society, JeffCo Historical Commission Cultural Resource Survey, and Golden Legacy Project officials estimate over 300 additional sites within three miles of the Lookout Mountain antenna tower clusters are potentially ELIGIBLE for National Register of Historic Places. Over 250 properties and archaeological sites are in and around Golden and Morrison, which promotes historic preservation to attract visitors. Historic homes, archaeological sites, Rockland Church, Hall Summer Cottage (JJ Benedict), Twisted Pine Lodge and Rancho Tranquillo are examples of 50 potentially eligible sites in Mount Vernon Canyon. There are also many Native American sacred sites on Lookout Mountain identified by NAGPRA officials Gordon Yellowman (Cheyanne) and Anthony Addison (Northern Arapahoe) during a CARE-organized field trip (1999). All of Red Rocks Park was considered a sacred place by Native Americans. For more information, see Brief History and/or Public Attractions and/or Neighborhoods |
